Phil attained his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1980, then spent two years as a Resident Medical Officer at the Princess Alexandria hospital in Brisbane, before going to train for another two years as the Emergency Medicine Registrar at the hospital. In 1985 he took over the Rosalie practice of his own family doctor, Harrymuir, on whom he modelled his practice philosophy of traditional cradle to the grave general practice, treating his patients with care, respect, compassion and 24/7 availability. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australia College of General Practitioners in 1990, achieving the highest marks in Australia in those examinations, tying with another Western Suburbs Dr Aldyth Love, and was jointly awarded the colleges M.O. Kent-Hughs memorial medal for that achievement. With more than 34 years’ experience in family general practice, he combines extensive medical skills with his keen interest in all aspects of Family Health, with a special interest in the diagnosis, management, prevention and removal of skin cancer. Dr Mansfield is a specialist General Practitioner who grew up in the local area and attended Milton State Primary School. He still lives locally in the Rosalie Village.
